Pretty simple. Email forum@otsusers.com with a request to join. And mention why in the email and what username you would like.

That's it!

Thanks for your patience!

Believe it or not, this is a very short version of the last few days. :)

Back end services being updated many times over the years finally forced the update of this forum when the older code became so incompatible with the more modern environment that something finally broke enough to prevent people from posting. This as opposed to a previous problem where you saw an error after a successful post making you think your post didn't work, where it actually did, now the forum was really broken. No more putting off a bunch of work to fix it all.

I put off updating the forum because the supplied update scripts are broken. Basically, there are some versions (the one we were on for example) where the update scripts would fail. Searching the support forums for this forum software would reveal folks experiencing this problem, but not any actual solutions. I would have to slog through and figure them out myself.

The forum had broken enough with incompatibilities I had to rebuild it sort of Frankenstein style. Basically recreating a new blank forum at the same version, repairing busted things by examining and cobbling pieces together. I got it to 'work', but I still couldn't update the forum.

So over the last few days I would wash, rinse, repeat the update and fix process to discover each problem. It was annoying as I would have to redo the growing set of fixes each update attempt, but that's what I had to do. This morning I believe I have found and fixed every issue and got the modified update scripts to bring us up to the latest version of the forum software.

Do you know that song, "there was an old lady who swallowed a fly?" That's what running through each update attempt was like. So anyway "She's fixed of course".

At least I think so. If you notice something broken, I can hopefully address it without again running through the repair and upgrade steps. CUZ I DON'T WANNA DO THAT ANYMORE FOR A WHILE! :p

And yep, it looks very different. The old theme was wholly incompatible with the newer forum software. It's a fresh paint job too.

Hi @DJ_Zath,

Yes, I'm doing well thanks.  Hoping you are well and healthy too, especially in these Covid times.

Well I've carried the show for several years now, and there's been no mention of money.  I think (I'm not 100% sure) that Rob - the host - is offering the show to commercial stations for money, but no charge for non-commercial stations.  There are also no sponsors or ads.

What I meant was that I open Ots Studio, open the Ots album file that contains the top 40 countdown, remove each track in the album file, then do a Ctrl-W (import new media) and import the new MP3s into the Ots album file.  Save, rescan, done.

hello Mixfm buddy; I hope you're doing well and are healthy, safe and happy.

this reminds me of when I tried to acquire "the Dr. Demento show" for WARP many years back.. although, it was offered to many stations for free, they wanted to charge me $100.00 per show AND I have to include/air all their ads/commercials!

it may have been a good show- but it wasn't that good!

oh, what did you mean to "remove" tracks? (did you mean to "combine" tracks?) I have a similar situation where I'm sent program material in chunks and I have to convert FLAC to WAV and then import said chunks into Studio to fix tag info and then export as album files.  Although I have the conversion process fully-automated, Studio can still be a bear sometimes as its interface and procedures can be rather clunky.

now 8 months in... and still no improvements!  (sigh)

I hope everyone is healthy (NO COVID, Monkeypox or whatever ELSE comes out of China...), safe (every freaking day... another shooting!) and, most-importantly, HAPPY!

Hello,

My station carries the NZ Retro Weekly Top 40 Countdown show.  It's a weekly show which takes a year from the late 70s, 80s, or early 90s, and plays the top 40 hits from this week in that year.

I have nothing to do with the show - I just air it on my station.  It's hosted by Rob Walker and produced by Aaron Anderson.  They have been making it available free of charge to non-commercial radio stations.  If you operate a non-profit radio station and you're interested in carrying that show, let me know and I'll put you in touch.

You can listen to past episodes here, to give you an idea:  https://www.mixcloud.com/NZ_Retro_Weekly_Top_40/

I'm also happy to share how I schedule it in Ots.  The only thing I have to do manually each week is:

  • Open OTS file
  • Remove the 16 tracks (the show is in 16 parts)
  • Import the new tracks and save
  • Do an Easy Scan

That's it!
