Hey Guys:
Need a reccomendation on a new laptop as mine was destroyed in a fire. Haven't kept up with new technology lately.  My old one was a 17" Hp. What would buy?

Dude, you need a Dell! I have a Studio 1737 that runs like a champ.

Samsung Core i7 here - quite pricey (I think it's meant to be a gaming machine because it has NVidia graphics alongside the intel HD stuff built into the i7 processor) but I feel I've got plenty of power (4 cores, 8 threads) for the money.  It has space for a second hard drive but the cable that was meant to be supplied was not included (have to buy it separately it seems - Samsung are not willing to replace it under warranty).   One more negative - it had a cash back deal - the terms and process are terrible - the cash back process is obviously designed to be so awkward that many people wont do it or will make a mistake that means that they don't have to pay.  I got mine eventually, but there was no communication at all from the cash back firm that was running the deal (I just found £100 had been dropped into my bank account one day).
