Hi All,
I have just purchased the new OTS av pro, but used to have the old version of ots dj.
The problem i am having is that i am so used to using the mp3 converter but i cannot seem to be able to download a copy of this anywhere and you only get the ots studio when you have purchased the ots av pro.
Is there a place on the ots sight where you can download this program?

Many Thanks
Dave

There's a lot of functionality in Ots Studio that you might want to use.  I admit it's a bit of a learning curve when something new comes along and replaces what you've got used to, but in the case of Ots Studio, I think the benefits outweigh that, personally.

By all means continue to use the old converter if you wish, but don't dismiss Ots Studio completely - it's a very useful tool.  I haven't used the old converter since Ots Studio has come along and I've not missed the old converter.

By the way, for the odd occasion where you need to convert an MP3 to an Ots Album (perhaps as part of an automated task like fetching a news bulletin) there is a command line version of this tool included with the current OtsAV releases.

Have fun,
Darryl.

I use the old converter still, myself!

I also use Studio to "update" the chunk info and stuff after the conversion..

(to be honest, theres still quite a lot on Studio that I don't understand exactly..  but, I'm old-fashioned, and like to do things "the hard way" heheh

(I use an ACM CODEC for wav/CD to MP3 conversion initially, simply because it offers,  - WARNNING: OPINION ALERT - what I believe to be the best-quality for my particular needs.)

Now that it is possible use wav files directly, I'm surprised you even bother to convert, Zath.
I don't.

Milky: its more of "old habits" kinda thing actually..

I was under the impression that only Ots files can be "fully-implemented" into the ots playback engine; not saying that wav's/mp3s, etc won't play.. just that wav's/mp3's require an external omx file and that they don't work in the pitch bend, ABM, reverse, and all the other nifty gadgets Ots has to offer... not to mention having to manage all those THOUSANDS of .omx files scattered all over the archive!

of course, converting my library back to wav is just as silly! so, I just left it "as is"..

a good fix would be that Ots keeps all the .omx files in a single folder (of my choice, or, at least, in its "Data" folder), instead of placeing them all over the place.. (being that I have the ots system integrated into Windows directly..  This suggestion mostly for housekeeping purposes)

Milky, As always, you DO have a good point!  now that I have aquire a couple 2-TB drives, it would be VERY EASY to put those CDs onto wav directly (and I think I went off-subject now)

You can now keep the uncompressed wav data in an Ots album file. Of course thus us only possible when you use Ots Studio to import the data, but not with the old Ots mp3 converter.

No Zath. Studio will import directly from CD in raw wav format. No omx file required. Just saves the old LAME/Frauholfer argument which had been raging for years, and gives you whatever quality the original source provided. I also didn't go back and convert previous rips initially. I now rip all new purchases in wav, and, if I find a bad rip, or have reason to revisit a previously ripped CD, I now do it in wav (PDM).

Hi Milky and Darryl!

Good ole Milky! I can always count on you to make me smile! :)

Both of you make some good points here...

However, if I'm going to do this- I'll be starting over, this means tagging for thousands of tracks!

(and I haven't even finished that task for the first time around!)

Though, I'm REALLY tempted to just start over and do it RIGHT from the start this time around...

Ots Album Files containing wav data.. hmmmm... those are going to be some very large files! (example  some of my seclections (compelations) contain up to 7 discs!)  example: 720 megs times "7" (+ x = filedata/overhead) = ONE Ots album file!  wow!

Thats just an example, not all my seclections are like that.. (though  I have saved many as ots single media files)

but, again, if I REALLY want to take this seriously...

p.s.

PDM??  did you mean PCM?? I've heard the term "PDM" somewhere, but I can't recall/place it.. Theres also PWM..  but its not likely that would be used for audio rendering.

Yes, the files are quite large. Video plus wav makes for files of several gigabytes. Disks are cheap these days, so size (for once) doesn't matter.

Of course I meant PCM. PDM is "Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual", one of my "tools of trade".

oh, yeah! I didn't even think about VIDEO files!

as long as they don't exceed that which can be read on a 32-bit filesystem...

(at some point, I'm thinking about "doing videos".. but that will be if/when I have the equipment to do it)

Good health to the fine Dr Milky!

Maximum implemented NTFS file size for XP SP2+ is 16 TeraBytes, so I don't think there will be a problem for a while yet.

Thanks for all your help lads, downloaded the file and i am back on top of the world, its like having an old friend back.

Now the next subject i will be asking advise on is the dreaded automated beat mixing
I have had a quick go at this but it all seems very complicated, when i bought the new ots av i thought it would auto beat on its own just by clicking on the auto beat button, but obviously not.
Looks like i am going to have to put some serious time into this subject.

Darryl

And you most definately wont be able to do it with the old mp3 converter, sorry!

I think hes just using the old converter to "convert".. then he can use Studio to edit the chunk info and all that noise..

oh, what about the "tap out" BPM counter? does that work for setting tempos?
